In August 2016, the FAA created a new commercial remote pilot license category.  From that point on, all photos or video used for commercial purposes, adverts, promoting, etc. if taken by a drone, need to be taken by an FAA licensed remote pilot. This was done to ensure the safety in our airspace system that is used by airplanes, helicopters, jets, balloons, etc.

Andrew Allocco
