If you are a Broker, Managing Broker, Office Manager, Supervisor or a Sales Associate thinking about becoming a Broker, knowing the requirements of Employers by OSHA for Health and Safety is critical to know.

Real Estate Brokerages traditionally have mostly 1099 Employees as their Agents as well as W2 Employees for Clerical Staff, Assistants, etc.  In Florida as you know a Sales Associate must be employed by a Broker and in most cases, are paid commissions as 1099 independent contractors for tax purposes.  But OSHA still holds the Employer responsible for both and in this case the Brokers.

The main goal of safety and health programs is to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and deaths, as well as the suffering and financial hardship these events can cause for workers, their families, and employers.  The Introduction to OSHA is a starting point for recommended practices using a proactive approach to managing workplace safety and health.Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses

  • Improve compliance with laws and regulations
  • Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers' compensation premiums
  • Engage workers
  • Enhance their social responsibility goals
  • Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations
